The oldest trace of human presence in Corsica dates back to about 6570 B.C.
In 565 B.C the Phocaeans settled on the last coast and created Aleria.
As soon as the Romans began to overturn, starting the 4th century of our era. Corsica once again begin to stake for other partners who fight for the control of the island.
In 1077, Pope Gregory the 7th gave the administration of Corsica to Landolphe, Bishop of Pisa (following the faithful request).
In 1552, Henry the 2nd, King of France launches an attack on the Italian peninsula and because of its geographical position, Corsica find itself involved in the torment.
This revolution is complicated on one hand turned towards the Renaissance of the past structures and by new ideas which enlighten the century.
Independence actualized with Pasquale Paoli "the General of the Corsican nation"
Once more, Corsica saw the arrival of the French military governor : the count Marbeuf.
Born in Ajaccio in 1769 this child of the nation took over Corsican affairs after the Revolution.
In 1830 local divisions called Vendetta and crime appeared.
In 1940, more than 90 000 soldiers from the Mussolini troops have occupied Corsica.
After the second World War millions of Corsican emigrated on the continent like Marseille.
