
A road snaking on the side of some spectacular cliffs... a vegetation falling into the sea... you're discovering a wild territory : the Cap Corse. Just let you captivated...
Starting out from Bastia, preferably take the direction of the ‘ville de Pietrabugno and San Martino by the coast road overhanging the length of the town and the Marana. On a good day you can see the Tuscan islands: Capraïa, Elba, Monte Cristo.
The go back towards the sea by Miomo, in the direction of Macinaggio.
Not to be missed:
Erbalunga with its marina and its Genoese tower a real picture postcard.
Vous traverserez une succession de petits villages avec leurs tours génoises sentinelles, ainsi qu'une particularité architecturale symbolique du Cap Corse: "les maisons des américains", demeures de style colonial appelées ainsi car construites à la fin du XVIII° siècle et début du XIX° par des cap corsins exilés en Amérique du sud et revenus fortune faite. Vous les retrouverez tout le long de votre circuit Erbalunga, Sisco, Morsiglia...jusqu'à Macinaggio.
Then you will come to a series of little villages with Genoese watch towers, with architectural differences which is symbolic of the Cap Corse: “the Americans houses” residences which are of colonial style called as such because they were built at the end of the XVIII century and the beginning of the XIX century by people from the Cap Corse who were exiled in South America and who came back once they had made their fortune. You will find them the length of your circuit Erbalunga, Sisco, Morsiglia…. As far as Macinaggio.
From there go up to Rogliano, a village in an eyrie above Macinaggio where there is a wonderful view.Then go back to the west coast. Do wander off to the end of the cap and admire the little island and the light house of the Giraglia, one of the most beautiful and the most powerful in the Mediterranean.
Go down to Centuri, a little fishing port where they fish for lobsters which you can try out in the restaurants with terraces looking out over the sea. From Centuri to Nonza there is a steep climb from where you have some unforgetable views… where the rocks drop sheer into the sea, unspoiled creeks nonetheless accessible, the scents of rock rose.. and seaspray and also the villages:Morsiglia, Pino Canari, Albo marina
Not to be missed:
Nonza, the Genoese tower and the village were built on a rocky headland overhanging a long beach of black pebbles one cliff has a sheer drop of 150 metres. If you go along the streets of the village, built around the Saint Julie church (patron saint of Corsica, a martyr crucified at Nonza in the III century) climb and take a look at the square tower rebuilt by Pascal Paoli (in the XVI century). If you are feeling fit, take the steps that go down to the beach and which passes in front of the miraculous fountain of Saint Julie.
From Nonza to Saint Florent, stop off at Patrimonio for its remarkable church but also for its wine producing cellars where you can taste one of the oldest and most famous *AOC’s in Corsica and an outstanding Muscat !
Leave the vineyards of Patrimonio and go back down to the Gulf of Saint Florent which has an air of St Tropez, overlooked by a Genoese citadel.
A seaside resort which is highly appreciated and is open to all sporting activities, beach pleasures and you could even just laze on the beach.
There are numerous terrace restaurants, ice-cream parlours, and bars.
