The East coast, a wild and agricultural area !
The East coast and Aleria, the capital city of Ancient Corsica, provides a good example of the contrasted landscapes to be seen on the island. The vast stretch of land with scattered lagoons and ponds is overlooked by a dense forest characteristic of the island’s hinterland. The Castagniccia region and its typical villages jealously guard their identity. Here the earth is strong and meaningful; there’s a powerful, even mystic feel about it.
Along the coastline, if you follow the seaside road, you’ll discover the Diana and Urbino ponds where oysters have been produced since Antiquity. This place is also a haven for migratory birds who offer visitors a precious ecological sight.
