To the South of Bastia, there’s a tiny secret and tormented region with perched villages called... Casinca !
To the south of Bastia, there’s a tiny secret and tormented region, stuck between the Bastia-Corte and Bastia-Solenzara axes, and the Castagniccia region. It’s easy to get there from the plain if you follow the N198 – there are several entries towards Vescovato, Venzolasca, Sorbo, Castellare.
Don’t miss Penta di Casinca, a listed village where people from Bastia come for a stroll every weekend but that is, strangely, neglected by tourists. True, some will find there are too few bars and restaurants, but you’ll find some very old lanes and a beautiful church with an arresting baroque façade.
Let us not forget Loreto di Casinca, a magnificent eyrie to be admired from below or above.
Here is a great panoramic view to discover the whole Casinca region at once and, beyond the region, the deep blue Med. Don’t forget to visit Silvareccio, set 700 high at the foot of Mon San Angelo across the San Pedrone. This place is the most beautiful in the Ampugnani area, and the exhibitions of artists and artisans organized every summer will provide you with yet another reason to visit the place. Next you must come to Sorbo-Ocagnano for two reasons: first there’s a splendid well-preserved old church with its steeple in one block, and the unrestricted view on Penta, clinging to its spur. Then a last stop in Venzolasca, another charming village where you’ll find U Cuventu, one of the oldest convents in Corsica and a ruin that we hope will soon be renovated!
