More to the north, the Costa Verde, located 40 km south of Bastia and less than two hours away from other remarkable sites on the island, is divided between the sea and the mountains. Its varied landscapes and matchless view on the Tuscan archipelago make it an outstanding place. Beyond the green landscapes and charming well-preserved authentic villages, there’s a real cultural heritage in Costa Verde, notably numerous chapels and churches on the historical register.
Taking a Stroll on the Balcony of the Castagniccia Region
Start off in the Tavagna area, visit the authentic villages of Taglio and Isolaccio (the native place of the band I Muvrini) and take the time to stop at one of the traditional delis of these villages.
Drive on towards San Giovanni di Moriani, where you can admire Saint-Jean Church, its impressive 30-meter-high steeple and arresting Baroque interior decoration, while enjoying the panoramic view on the plains and the immense Mediterranean. Next, venture inland in search of Santa Reparata di Moriani, a tiny well-preserved hamlet typical of Corsican tradition. There, you’ll come across San Mamilianu chapel, a yearly pilgrimage place accessible on foot. Don’t miss the Acqua Acitosa, a spring of naturally sparkling and iron-bearing water. Next, stop by San Nicolao Village, where you can enjoy a moment’s quiet around the hamlets. Drive on towards Cervione through Santa Maria Poghju. Stop on the esplanade and admire the landscape. Drive on towards Sant’Andrea di Cotone and up towards Chigliacci, a hamlet towering above the village, from where you’ll get an amazing view. End your visit in San Giuliano to admire its gorgeous square tower.
