
With 8 722 Km² , it's the third biggest island of the Western Mediterranean sea after Sicily (25 000 Km²) and Sardinia (24 000 Km²). It is 183 km long and 85 km wide. Located closer to Italy (90 Km) than to France (170 Km), 12 km only will separate Corsica from Sardinia.
There are 3 geographical regions : the western and eastern parts as well as the centre.

Natural areas cover 83% of the Corsican territory. The quality and the diversity of these natural places and landscapes make the island one of the last European natural reserves.
Water is abundant on the island, because the mountain forms a barrier attracting strong rains in volume as well as snow all on the high summits
