Born in Ajaccio in 1769 this child of the nation took over Corsican affairs after the Revolution.

Except from tax reductions (Miot law concerned inheritance and land rights) Bonaparte did little for his natal island. His only goal was for it to become once and for all French. This was not to be accomplished without troubles. He fought against the Church who had created the insurrection beginning in 1798. He was cautious of internal divisions, he actually refused that Corsicans participate in the administration of the island.
In 1799 Fiumorbu broke out, arrival of Napoleon Charles Pozzo Di Borgo wanted to place Corsica under protection of a Russian emperor. 3 French armies where sent to eliminate the revolution. Bonaparte recruited millions of soldiers by all means to join the Great Army which counted up to 40 Corsican Generals. But the Great Army was defeated and Napoleon dethroned in 1814 and a second time in 1850 at Waterloo.
He died on another island in 1821 on Saint Helen but had contributed to give to Corsica a worldly enlightenment.
