Porto and the narrow creeks of Piana ... What a great and unforgettable sight !
Leave the main road RN 193 in the direction of Mezzavia. Here you turn left and take the D81 heading towards Cargèse-Porto.
Once you have cut across the maquis and crossed the Listincone pass, the road goes back towards the sea and the gulf of Sagone follow this coast road, a wild landscape of rocks and sandy beaches, to Cargèse, a town which was founded in 1774 by a Greek community.
Not to be missed :
The town overhangs the sea and the little fishing port and stretches around its two churches which are facing each other, one is a catholic church and the other an orthodox one. From the parvis of both churches you have a stunning view of the gulf of Sagone.
Set off again towards Porto, dotted with four Genoese towers on rocky heads. Here you come to the village of Piana, the entrance to the extraordinary Calanques (rocky creeks),
an exceptional conservation area one of the World Heritage Sites
A magical and fascinating sight where the rocks of a red-ochre colour sculptured by the water and the wind, overhang 400 metres above the sea, and seem to be set ablaze by sunset time. You then head for the marina in Porto, a busy seaside resort with its numerous restaurants and hotels, its shingly beach and its famous Genoese tower square….
The sunset is a must !
