Some trails to follow to reach the beauty of the island
Niolo: around the Vergio pass
Itinerary:
Start out on the D84 between the Vergio pass and the village of Albertacce, to the place known as the "Fer à cheval" (the horse’s shoe).
At the foot of the Paglia Orba (2525m) and the Capu Tafunatu – the mountain with a hole in it - (2335m) you will rediscover the heart of the Corsican mountains.
As you leave the road for the Vergio pass, head north and go through a pine and birch forest. After 30 minutes you will reach the sheepfold of the Radule.
From there, go back down to the Golo, the longest river in Corsica.
Under the sheepfolds of the Radule, you will rediscover the waterfalls and there, if you can bear the cold water, you could go for a dip in the magnificent pools.
For a family outing we would advise you stop there and come back the way you came.
From Bonifacio to the semaphore of Pertusato
Without a doubt, once you get to Bonifacio, you are right at the end of Corsica.
Genoese for several centuries, it is towards Sardinia that it faces. Head for the Genoese Citadel from the 13th century and the old part of the town, the view is breathtaking.
From the panoramic viewpoint of the Saint-Roch pass you will rediscover a unique and unforgettable landscape of unspoiled beauty, deep blues and blinding whites!
Stay on the heights, head towards the east in the direction of Cap Pertusato.
this 2 kilometre-long walk along the breathtaking cliffs overhanging a limestone jagged coast and from there you will see best the stray mushroom in the middle of the sea: le Grain de sable (the grain of sand).
The semaphore of Cap Pertusato regulates the heavy shipping traffic just opposite the Sardinian semaphore of the Maddalena.
From Pertusato, a privileged observation point you will discover all the islands of the strait: Cavallo, the Lavezzi, Spargi, la Maddalena…
At about 1 kilometre from the semaphore, you will reach the lighthouse and its square tower, just above the little island of Saint-Antoine.
A path leads from the lighthouse to the Cala di Labra.
Once you have discovered the cliffs from above, do not hesitate to take one of the little boats to see them from the sea.
