Chateau de sable à Moriani plage

Corsica is the kingdom of children. Culturally speaking, children have an important place in the Corsican way of life and their society, everyone keeps a kind eye on them, and there are numerous activities organised for them.

All of our beaches are great nature playgrounds for them.

Building castles in the sand on the white sand with the turquoise-coloured water’s edge, or skimming pebbles on our pebbled beaches…

The quality of our sea water will enable, you parents, to let them splash about in the water without any concern, but still keeping an eye on them nonetheless, even if most of the beaches are guarded.

Do your children feel a bit like Robinson Crusoe, well then do not hesitate and take a boat which will disembark you for a full day at the Lavezzi islands in the south of the island, or at Saleccia in the North West and, you can explore on foot all the natural wonders that will be presented to you.

Don’t forget to bring a picnic with you, some water and of course sun cream and a hat and you become for the space of a day "a real adventurer".

Very often there are « paillotes » where you can eat on the edge of most of our beaches.

Do your children feel like sailors, well then take a boat out and visit the grottos of, Bonifacio or the treasures of the sea beds of the Reserve of Scandola.

Worthwhile!

You and your children are the "adventurerous" type, there are hikes accessible for families waiting for you.

A few hiking ideas, just to make you want to put on your hiking boots: the village of Girolata, which you can only reach either on foot or by sea, there is no road there.

You can also discover the west coast by the Sentier des Douaniers, this walk will take you between the sea and the maquis, it is a delight to look at and to smell the different scents.

You can also hike through the mountains, in the forest Tartagine or in the Restonica and after the trees you can dive into a "pozzu" a real natural pool dug out of the rocks, just to refresh yourself before continuing your hike.

The Balagne can offer you another type of hike, that your children will just love !

Starting out from Olmi-Capella, the professionals in the domain will provide you with a map, advice and more especially a donkey to accompany you in your hike. Once the packsaddle is on and the saddle bags filled with your necessities for the day, put your child up on the donkey’s back and off you go for an amazing day trip!

If you would like to discover at your leisure the magical, magnificent, landscapes which are for the most part inaccessible by any other means of transport well then, "climb on board" the train that links Bastia to Ajaccio and the Balagne.

The Corsicans call it "U Trinichellu" (the trembler), it will enable you to cross a greater part of Corsica it is really impressive".

You should take them to discover all the abundance of the island’s flora.

There are some discovery trails on offer, particularly in Porto-Vecchio or at the entrance to Ile-Rousse.

Your children can "jump about" in the Corsican maquis, touch and smell the Corsican myrtle, everlasting flower from Italy, rockrose, broom, fig trees, orchids and even blue water lilies.

You will leave with thousands of colours and perfumes in your head.

To remain in the domain of flora, but more the "agricultural" aspect, there exists in the Cap Corse, at Santa-Severa to be more precise, a garden full "forgotten vegetables".

100 varieties of fruit trees and 25 varieties of vegetables have been replanted here.

A real treat!

Have your children ever wanted to change into "researchers" or "archaeologists" and discover the treasures of the past.

So make their dream come true.

Corsica is the first region in Europe for the quality of its megaliths and has around 500 menhirs.

Filitosa has a large number of statue menhirs, as well as torri (towers).

Amid the holm oaks, a thousand-year-old olive trees and a mass of rocks to shelter them, this trip back through time will be both rewarding, educational and moving.

The museum of Alta-Rocca or the museum of Aléria will enable you to discover the vestiges of a past that was sometimes glorious.

In Castagniccia, at Orezza, flows iron-bearing spring water which is naturally sparkling.

A little more recent, but just as exciting, you can find out where and how the Orezza water reaches their bottles before you quenching your thirst.

We have already mentioned the flora, but let’s not forget the fauna.

You could meet a certain number of animals at any bend, in Corsica, for example pigs. Your children will be delighted to watch them, but do be careful, don’t get too close these are almost wild animals.

Show your children a prehistoric animal, the Hermann tortoise, at the Tortoise Village in Moltifao. You will find the most beautiful specimens of this animal which is "symbolic" of our island.

If your children are real fans of "Franklin", do not hesitate to go and visit A Cupulatta "the city of tortoises" in Véro, near Ajaccio.

On a natural site of 6 acres, your children will discover more than 3000 animals of 160 different species of tortoises: tortoises from the Galapagos islands, Radiated tortoises from Madagascar, Snakeneck turtles, Alligator snapping turtles and many more…

If you’re lucky, you could maybe witness the hatching of the baby tortoises.

So don’t hesitate any longer and off you go !

But do not forget the moral of the fable by Jean de Lafontaine in the Tortoise and the hare, "there is no need to run, just have to leave at the right time."

So you understand that whatever the parents would like (apart from extreme sports) they can bring their children everywhere with them, without fear, but knowing one thing that this will always be a great discovery and very often bedazzlement !!!
